I love European cars of the German variety. I have for as long as I can remember. And within German cars, I've always been partial to Volkswagen and Audi - there's something oddly familiar about them.

möbius one was designed as a log of sorts, for me to record the changes I make to this, one of my dream cars, which I am lucky....

Tupercharged? Supercharged.

05 25 2011

Audi created much controversy when they decided to badge the S4 as a V6T.  Traditionally the “T” stands for “Turbocharged”, so it didn’t make much sense that a badge with a “T” was put on the S4 being a supercharged car. Audi stated that this was a branding strategy for all forced induction engines regardless of method, and while a supercharger is in essence a mechanical turbocharger, it is mechanically different enough that many people felt a distinction was warranted.

Not long after the car was released, Audi released “Supercharged” OEM badging as a port installed option. These badges come with traditional S-Line red accents or with carbon fiber accents.

I removed the stock V6T badges on the fenders by way of heating the adhesive with a blow dryer and prying them off carefully. Then I removed any leftover adhesive with alcohol. With a debadged and clean pair of fenders, I took the opportunity to claybar them and apply a 2 stage polish with my Porter Cable polisher to ensure the new badges didn’t lock in any impurities in the paint.

At that point I carefully laid out the template that outlines exactly where the badges are supposed to sit per OEM specification and carefully placed them on the paint.

I’ve never been a fan of debadging my cars — during the 6 years I had my VW GLI, I never removed the OEM badges —  but I’ve also never been known to add more badges.  That said, the supercharged replacement badges are unobtrusive enough that they don’t really stand out as a sore thumb and are enough to make a statement. My personal opinion is that they do look quite good. I went with S-Line red, as they mirror both front and rear red accent badges as well as the red accent displayed on the S4 emblem on all four door sills.
